DR. JOHN RANDALL OWEN

Dr. Owen is a family dentist practicing at Tidewater Family Dentistry in Newport News, VA with an emphasis in preventative care, restorative dentistry and removable dentistry. A native of Richmond, VA, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University, Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Dr. Owen developed an early respect for primary care through the example of his father who was a family physician and enjoys working with patients of all ages at Tidewater Family Dentistry.
DR. LANEY VAUGHAN

Dr. Laney Vaughan is an experienced, skilled and driven Associate General Dentist with a commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive and compassionate dental care for all patients. Dr. Vaughan earned her Bachelor of Science from Wake Forest University. Then, she went on to earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. She was also a staff member for a traveling dental mission group that treated patients in underserved areas of North Carolina before joining the Tidewater Family Dentistry team.

- Donna joined Tidewater Family Dentistry in 2021
- She has more than 20 years of experience in navigating the changing world of dental insurance
- Donna enjoys helping patients understand their insurance rights and answering any insurance and financial questions
- She also enjoys getting to know patients and helping them deal with any dental fears
- Outside of the office, she can be found spending time with her family and working in her vegetable and flower gardens
- She also enjoys early morning walks, the local beaches, bays and rivers in our area

- Hailey joined Tidewater Family Dentistry in 2021
- With a passion for helping people, Hailey enjoys getting to know the patients at Tidewater Family Dentistry
- Hailey loves working with the amazing team at Tidewater Family Dentistry
- A native of Smithfield, she enjoys all aspects of living near the water including eating crab legs!
- Outside of the office, Hailey can be found shopping, coloring or spending the day at the beach

- Lauri joined Tidewater Family Dentistry in 2012
- She is passionate about improving patients’ oral health through education and clinical practice
- Lauri treats her patients with compassion and empathy and enjoys building a foundation of trust that hopefully lasts a lifetime!
- Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and taking their dog on long walks
- A native of Newport News, Lauri enjoys the different seasons the areas offers and the proximity to the ocean

- Mariely joined Tidewater Family Dentistry in 2018
- Mariely’s favorite part of being part of the Tidewater Family Dentistry team is the rewarding and busy atmosphere. She loves helping patients achieve the smile of their dreams!
- A native of Puerto Rico, she is bilingual in Spanish
- Away from the office, Mariely can be found spending time with her husband and daughter boating and fishing
- Mariely enjoys the wide variety of activities in this area and loves that it is a great place to raise a family
Brenda
Dental Hygienist

- Brenda joined Tidewater Family Dentistry in 2022
- Brenda loves helping her patients put their best smiles forward. She works diligently to provide comfortable care and ease any anxieties that patients may have about having their teeth cleaned
- Within the field of dentistry, Brenda particularly enjoys X-rays, periodontal scaling and root planning, providing dietary and smoking cessation recommendations and fluoride treatments
- Outside the office, you can find Brenda crafting in her “she shed”— rock painting, crafting inspirational messages to leave around town, making garden flags and practicing origami. She also enjoys spending time on the water, fishing with her brother and gardening.

- Her favorite procedures to assist with are extractions and fillings
- Emily enjoys comforting patients, answering their questions about dentistry and seeing their smiles after helping them eliminate their pain
- Outside of the office, Emily loves spending time with her family and her dog, shopping, weight lifting and learning sign language
Tijai

- Tijai joined Tidewater Family Dentistry in 2023
- She is a graduate of the New Horizons Dental Assisting Program
- She is X-Ray Certified and CPR Certified
- Within the field of dentistry, she especially enjoys interacting with patients, taking X-rays, preparing patients for procedures and giving them preventative care instructions
- Tijai strives to help her patients have the best experience possible
- Outside the office, Tijai loves spending time with her 5-month-old baby girl, writing, making jewelry and spending time with family
- Raised in both Georgia and Newport News, she enjoys the city center, parks and beaches in the Newport News area
